Carmen Souza presents her eleventh album, “Port’Inglês”, showcasing her unique and unmistakable voice in the world music scene. With her distinctive style blending jazz and Cape Verdean influences, the album poetically yet poignantly explores the stories of the British occupation of Cape Verde.
Often referred to as the Cape Verdean Ella Fitzgerald, Souza stands out for her charisma and vocal technique, effortlessly crossing traditional genre boundaries.
She has toured internationally and released eleven albums under the German label Galileo Music, earning acclaim in both the World Music and Jazz scenes.
Since its release in October 2024, Port’Inglês has been featured in the World Music Charts Europe (WMCE), Transglobal World Music Chart, and Raiz Iberian Roots Music Chart. It was also included in several Best World Music Albums of 2024 lists and, in January 2025, was nominated for the German Critics’ Award – Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik.
