“Peter and the Wolf” is a musical tale written by renowned Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev, commissioned in 1936 by the Central Children’s Theatre in Moscow. The aim of the piece was to introduce children to classical music in an engaging and playful way, allowing them to become familiar with the orchestra and its instruments. Each character in the story is represented by a different musical instrument and a distinct theme, often associated with an animal or other figure, making it easy to recognize each one as the narrative unfolds.
Due to its lively and vivid music and the innovative combination of live narration with onstage orchestral performance, the piece quickly became – and still is – a beloved classic in the children’s repertoire. It has been performed by many notable actors, including Roberto Benigni under the baton of Claudio Abbado.
This new production, commissioned by I Concerti nel Parco and entrusted to Alice Lupparelli (a rising star and known for her role in the TV series Il Professore), aims to bring this timeless piece—approaching its centenary—to life through the perspective of a 20-year-old millennial actress. The staging will feature audience interaction, with formats revealed progressively by the actress-director throughout the performance.
Rounding out this radiant and vibrant summer program—designed for Casa del Jazz’s diverse audience are:
- a Suite from Bizet’s “Carmen”
- a Fantasy based on the iconic film scores by Nino Rota, including La Dolce Vita, Amarcord, The Godfather, and 8½.
